After considering 90 composers around the world that wrote hymns to be considered for the official hymn of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Vatican chose the British organist and composer Paul Inwood
The title and refrain of the hymn is also the official Latin theme of the Holy Year of Mercy: “Misericordes sicut Pater” meaning “Merciful Like the Father”. Included in the verses are lines from Scripture as well as the Latin words, “in aeternum misericordia eius,” which translates to “his mercy is forever.”
